HK-listed Alco Hldgs yr to March profit up 60 pct, boosted by high-end goods

HONG KONG (XFN-ASIA) - Alco Holdings Ltd said its year to March 2005 net
profit rose 60 pct year-on-year to 239.15 mln hkd from 149.37 mln as the
company focused on producing more high-end digital products for original
equiment manufacturers and private label customers.

Alco Holdings chairman Kimen Leung Kai Ching said.
Despite keen competition, the group achieved encouraging results for the
year as it increased its production of high-end digital products, he said.
Annual sales reached 5.39 bln hkd, against 3.81 bln a year earlier, while
operating profit rose to 278.57 mln hkd from 173.76 mln.
The company has proposed to pay a final dividend of 12.0 HK cents,
against 8.0 cents a year earlier.
Audio-visual products continued to be the major revenue contributor as
the market responded well to the group's high-value products, notably its
portable DVD players with built-in TFT-LCD screens.
To widen its product offering, the group has diversified into the
production of home-use TFT-LCD televisions and DVD recorders, he said.
