STOCK ALERT - HK-listed Macau-theme stocks sharply higher in speculative trade

HONG KONG (XFN-ASIA) - Hong Kong-listed Macau-theme stocks were sharply higher on speculation of gains from projects proposed to be undertaken in the former Portuguese enclave, dealers said.

Companies with proposed or existing projects in Macau were among the top gainers in early morning trade.

Melco International Melco International Development was up 1.70 hkd or 17. 26 pct at 11.55 with 21.56 mln shares changing hands.

Yau Lee Holdings gained 0.10 hkd or 17.24 pct to 0.68, while DNA Security (1051.hk) was up 0.012 hkd or 16.90 pct at 0.083.

""Many investors have unreasonable expectations of gains from companies with projects, proposed or existing, in Macau. There are those who hardly bother scrutinizing details of the financials and proposed projects of companies with Macau development plans,"" said Francis Lun, general manager at Fulbright Securities.

He said Melco International stands out among Macau-theme stocks because its chairman, Stanley Ho, has extensive gaming businesses in Macau.
