HK's Group Sense to sell 150,000 units of Xplore G18 handsets in H2 - UPDATE

HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - Group Sense (601.HK) expects to sell 150,000 units of PalmSource Xplore G18 mobile handsets in the second half of this year to generate revenue of 300-400 mln hkd, company chairman Samson Tam said.

He said the company will launch within the next year 4-6 models of mobile handsets, carrying a gross margin of over 20 pct.

Tam said Group Sense spent 60 mln hkd on research and development last year and the figure will not increase more than 10 pct this year.

He said the company will combine the handset and PDA businesses, which will be spun off for a separate listing. However, given the financial improvement for the year to March, the company will not undertake the listing until next year or in 2005.

For the year to March, the company made a net profit of 43.118 mln hkd, compared with a loss of loss 98.138 mln.
