DJ MARKET TALK:HK Xinjiang-Related Shrs Unlikely To React To Riot
|
|
1442 [Dow Jones] Riot in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with death toll climbing to at least 140, has so far, and is unlikely to, have much impact on HK stocks. Very few Xinjiang-background companies listed in HK; only two companies with meaningful exposure there: Xinxin Mining (3833.HK), Tianye Water (0840.HK), with both PetroChina (0857.HK), Sinopec (0386.HK) having operations there. None of these mainly operate in provincial capital of Urumqi, where riot happened. Unless violence escalates, spreads to other parts of region, resulting in disruption of operations, shares of relevant companies unlikely affected much. Xinxin Mining down 1.6% at HK$4.26, Tianye +1.3% at 80 HK cents, PetroChina down 2.0% at HK$8.36, Sinopec +1.8% at HK$6.07, vs HSI down 0.7% - showing no discernible pattern of reacting to Xinjiang riot.(RLI) Contact us in Hong Kong. 852 2802 7002; MarketTalk@dowjones.com
