| HONG KONG (Dow Jones)--Hong Kong's telecommunications industry regulator said Thursday it issued licenses to operate fourth-generation mobile telephone services to the three highest bidders at an auction.
The Office of the Telecommunications Authority said in a statement it gave broadband wireless access licenses to China Mobile (Hong Kong) Ltd., CSL New World Mobility Ltd., and to PCCW Ltd. (0008.HK) and Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd. (HTX), which submitted a joint application for a license.
China Mobile (Hong Kong) is a wholly owned unit of China Mobile Ltd. (CHL).
The statement said CSL submitted the highest bid of HK$523 million, PCCW and Hutchison submitted the second-highest bid of HK$518 million, and China Mobile had the third-highest bid of HK$494.7 million.
City Telecom (H.K.) Ltd. (1137.HK) and SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings Ltd. (0315.HK) were the other bidders in the auction, it added. The statement didn't say how much they bid for the licenses. -By Aries Poon, Dow Jones Newswires; 852-2832-2332; aries.poon@dowjones.com
